- Says $30bn loan needed to boost economy
THE Primate of The Church of The Lord, Most Reverend Rufus Ositelu has urged Nigerians to support the Federal Government in the recession period to enable it come out of the menace.
The Primate also called on Nigerians to also support the government in its fight against corruption by disengaging from corrupt practices in their different homes, and places of work.
Primate Ositelu made this known while addressing journalists at the three day power packed revival programme tagged ‘Divine Encounter’ in Abuja.
According to him “We are in a very difficult time right now, but the foundation for progress is being laid right now and that is why we are facing the challenging period.
“The foundation of this country right from the beginning is not good and now, by the grace of God, the present government is helping to lay the better foundation for this nation.
“I have hope for this country that things will get better, we need to pray for the government and also fight corruption in our homes, schools, working places. We need to fight corruption or corruption will kill this country.”
Speaking on the Federal Government proposal to borrow $30 billion, Primate Ositelu said “in this situation we found ourselves where oil output has gone down, we need this loan.
“When we have economic downturn, we need loan to buttress the economy, but only one thing I want to tell the loan giver is that they should tie the loan to projects. They should not give the money to the Federal Government; they should tie them to projects that will benefit the masses.”
The Provincial Head, Northern Ecclesiastical of the church, Archbishop Moses Olasemojo said the purpose of the programme was to seek divine intervention to end the problems the country is facing currently.
“If you look at the country presently, you will find out that we need prayers and for that prayer to be effective, then there must be God’s intervention and that brought about the theme for the programme which is ‘Divine Encounter’ because we know without God, we can do nothing, but when God sets in every problem vanish, and that is what brought about all these,” he added.
