The largest yam producer in Aniocha South Local Government Area of Delta State has been installed the 16th president of Rotary Club of Asaba East.
The farmer, Paul Chiedu Onwuadiamu, who has consistently maintained a leading position in yam production in the state since 2003, produces up to 15,000 tubers every year.
The hall where the installation took place ruptured into thunderous ovation when his profile as the largest yam farmer was read.
Onwuadiamu, born 45 years ago, is currently a law student at Imo State University, Owerri after his bachelor degree in education from University of Nigeria, Nssuka.
He was a former Supervisory Councillor for Works, Legal Matters, Traditional Matters and Special Duties in Aniocha South Local Government Area.
Nigerian Tribune learnt that Onwuadiamu had served as secretary of the club in the outgone year.
At the installation ceremony held in Asaba over the weekend, 25 personalities who distinguished themselves in various careers were also honoured.
Among those honoured are the Executive Director of NIMASA, Victor Ochie, Senator Peter Nwaoboshi, Henry Okolie, Dr. Awele Nwabuokei, the Omu-Anioma, Obi Martha Dunkwu, Elvis Obaseki, Eddy Ogidi Gbegbaje and Hyacinth Eluha.
The insignia of office and the certificate of the club were handed over to Onwuadiamu by his predecessor, Farombi Abiodun who outlined  the guiding principles of the club and what the founding fathers stood.
Accepting to serve, Onwuadiamu said under the new board, the Rotary Club of Asaba East would advance to the next level in its humanitarian and community services.
He said the club had so far in the 2021/2022 year excelled exceedingly in areas of disease prevention and treatment, maternal and child health care, basic education and community development, sanitation and tree planting.
According to him, the club, in collaboration with other social organisations, also empowered women as well as participated in eradication of polio.
