No fewer than 219 residents of New Gbagi Market in Ibadan, Oyo State, have benefited from free medical services provided under the auspices of the Dr. Olasukanmi Adesina Medical Outreach, spearheaded by the Junior Chamber International (JCI) Oluyole, on April 6, 2024.
This initiative, sponsored by Dr. Olasukanmi Adesina, CMD of Academy Hospital Ibadan and Mokola Hilltop Hospital Ibadan, brought much-needed healthcare services to the doorstep of the community.
At around 10 a.m., the bustling market square became a hub for free services including doctors’ consultations, eye tests, glasses distribution, diabetes and malaria screenings, and medication distribution. Notably, 61 individuals received complimentary eye tests, with 46 also receiving reading glasses, while 112 residents benefited from general tests and medication provisions.
The outreach also served as an eye-opener to prevalent health issues within the community, with cataract identified as a common ailment among the elderly population. These individuals were promptly referred to appropriate healthcare facilities for further assessment and treatment.
The impact of the outreach was palpable, as beneficiaries expressed heartfelt gratitude to JCI Oluyole and Dr. Olasukanmi Adesina for their timely intervention.
Deacon Uche, a beneficiary, spoke of the immense relief the outreach provided to those unable to afford medical treatment.
Another beneficiary, Iya Beji, praised the initiative for its dedication to community welfare. Mrs Blessing also shared her gratitude for the opportunity to receive new glasses, remarking on the positive change they would bring to her and her sister’s lives.
Dr. Olasukanmi Adesina, expressed his satisfaction with the turnout and the number of individuals assisted. He emphasized that helping the less advantaged is the essence of humanity, reaffirming his commitment to making a positive impact in the community.
The team lead Dr Olasukanmi Adesina Medical Outreach,Dr Ike Somtochi express her happiness at the success of the project, she said the hardwork put in planning the outreach was really worth it and was so happy at the number of people that benefited from the outreach.
JCIN Amb. Chikeluba Okonkwo, President of JCI Oluyole, echoed the sentiments of joy and fulfillment, emphasizing the organization’s commitment to creating positive impacts in the community. He highlighted the significance of commemorating World Health Day through such initiatives, underscoring the importance of accessible healthcare for all.
The resounding message from beneficiaries was clear: initiatives like this are not only life-changing but also essential for the betterment of society. As the outreach drew to a close, the president concluded, “With continued support and collaboration, JCI Oluyole remains dedicated to building a healthier and more prosperous Nigeria.”
