World Bank partners Kwara on communal projects

World Bank has partnered with the Kwara state government on provision of community development projects for selected rural communities in the state through Nigeria COVID-19 Action Recovery and Economic Stimulus (NG-CARES) Programme.

Speaking during the presentation of cheques to five communities’ micro-projects approved for funding by the Kwara State Community and Social Development Agency (KWCSDA) in Ilorin on Wednesday, Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, said that the intervention demonstrates the state government’s commitment towards alleviating the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on communities and vulnerable groups.

Represented by his deputy, Mr Kayode Alabi, the governor presented cheques to the first batch of benefiting communities in Asa, Moro, Edu and Offa local government areas for such community projects in areas of sanitation (VIP toilets), water and health.

“The State Government is determined to ensure a positive impact of this developmental initiative. It is for this reason that the state government has approved and released the sum of N76,000,000.00 to Kwara State Community and Social Development Agency-NG CARES (KWCSDA-NG CARES) for the retroactive financing of prior results of result areas 1.4 (basic service infrastructure) of which we are presenting the cheques to first batch beneficiaries today” he said.

Governor Abdulrazaq urged members of the Community Project Management Committees (CPMCs) to demonstrate the required forthrightness in managing funds released to the benefiting communities.

He expressed appreciation to the development partners including the Federal Government and the World Bank for the support and sustenance of the programme, assuring that the enabling environment and funding will be provided for achieving the programme objectives in Kwara state.

Speaking earlier, the commissioner for Finance, Mrs Florence Oyeyemi, affirmed that Governor Abdulrazaq is keen on improving the living standards and well being of Kwarans through the provision of basic infrastructure to the poor and vulnerable.

In her remarks, General Manager Kwara State Community and Social Development Agency KWCSDA NG-CARES, Engineer Mrs Amamat Haruna, noted that the agency is saddled with the responsibility of supporting communities with basic social infrastructure.
