The Minister for Women Affairs, Uju Kennedy-Ohanenye, has promised to increase empowerment opportunities for women in the country.
She said her agenda as a Minister for Women and Children Affairs is to sponsor Nigerian women to achieve their life purposes and objectives.
The Minister made the promise before Journalists, in Awka, the Anambra State Capital, shortly after meeting with leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC), in the state, on Wednesday.
According to her, “In the cost of teaching the women how to fish, I will as well open the doors on how to sell the fish, and in the long run, they will have the fish, have the market, which would serve as a hub to them to make more money and build themselves confident.
“I will change what is called in the Igbo language, “Uzuka-umowanyi (women village meetings) into a Cooperative society across communities in Nigeria.
“The purpose will be achieved through the Nigerians Women Development Agency, under the Ministry
“The agency is being sponsored by the World Bank.
“We are also working on how to end child trafficking completely in the country,” she noted.
Tribune Online gathered that the Minister, was also in Awka as an indigene to attend the State Investment summit slated for Thursday 7th, 2023.
