The men, Ayodeji Jimoh (45) and Oluyemi Isaac (42), were alleged to have conspired and killed Innocent on August 15, 2018 at the farm in Emure-Ekiti in Emure Local Government Area of Ekiti State.
The duo of Jimoh and Isaac were brought before an Ado-Ekiti Magistrates Court to answer charges of murder, preferred against them by the police.
According to Mr Oriyomi Akinwale, a police inspector prosecuting the matter, the defendants, whose addresses were unknown, allegedly conspired and murdered one Monica Innocent on August 15.
Akinwale said: “The deceased had rented a cocoa farm from a Christian association. She was threatened by the defendants to vacate the farm because they had bought the farm from the association. The victim later went to the farm and met the defendants, who warned her to leave. Her children later found her dead body on the farm.”
According to him, the offence is punishable under section 324 and 319 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Ekiti State, 2012, just as the prosecutor urged the court to remand Jimoh and Isaac in prison pending legal advice from office of Director of Public Prosecution (DPP).
The court did not take the plea of the defendants, as the Magistrate, Mrs Modupe Afeniforo, ordered that the defendants be remanded in prison custody pending advice from the DPP and adjourned the matter to October 2, 2018 for mention.
