Clean toilets and proper hygiene have been described as an avenue to achieving healthy living which, in turn, will save families scarce resources which could have been expended on the treatment of avoidable diseases.
This view was expressed by Omolara Adebare, the Area Sales Manager for Hypo and Hypo Toilet Cleaner, South West, at a programme by Hypo Homecare Products Limited to celebrate World Toilet Day 2024, held at Bodija Market in Ibadan, Oyo State.
Adebare said Hypo Homecare Products Limited was keen to promote healthy living among Nigerians and thus organised a sensitisation and awareness show in which Nigerians were charged to imbibe the culture of maintaining clean toilets and general hygiene.
The programme which began with road shows, visits to health centres and public engagement and sensitization of the community on the importance of the day, was rounded off with spectacular fanfare and product gifting at the popular Bodija Market in Ibadan, as well as paying for people usage of toilet facilities in the market and cleaning it at regular intervals.
Speaking on the importance of the day and why HHPL took it seriously, Adebare said HHPL celebrates World Toilet Day every November 19 “to sensitise the community on the importance of keeping a hygienic toilet and we are collaborating with the community to achieve the aim of helping Nigerians to maintain clean and hygienic toilets.”
According to her, the reason behind the collaboration with the society was because “Hypo Toilet Cleaner contains ingredients that kill invisible germs that cause diseases which are found in toilets, we go around; we tell people this good news about Hypo Toilet Cleaner. We sample the products for them, wash their toilets so that they can imbibe the culture of keeping a clean toilet because a clean toilet is a clean society.”
She said: “We urge Nigerians to clean their toilets with Hypo Toilet Cleaner regardless of whether you are using a water closet (WC) or pit latrine. It’s important to keep your toilet clean because our children might touch surfaces, and we can keep the surfaces clean and germ-free.
“A lot of people grew up in areas without WC but if their toilet is clean and hygienic, they would have healthy children and if you have healthy children we will have a healthy society. So it is better for everyone to keep their surfaces hygienic and clean so as not to spend scarce resources in hospitals on treatment of unhealthy children.”
HHPL, manufacturer of Hypo Toilet Cleaner, she noted, had made it easy for Nigerians by packaging the products in pocket-friendly sachets.”
Also speaking, the Marketing Manager for Hypo Home Care, South West, Buchi Maduka, said for World Toilet Day 2024, “We did a roadshow for enlightenment and awareness and part of the reasons is because Oyo State is ranked high in open defecation. So it is very important that we create the necessary awareness.
“Also as part of the day, we visited primary healthcare centres in parts of Ibadan and we engaged them and distributed our products. We must continue to sensitise our people to embrace clean toilets and live in good hygiene.
“In partnership with the Oyo State Ministry of Environment, for example, we had a cleaning exercise in Agbeni Market. We have been collaborating with the Oyo State government and we are happy that we are seeing results of the efforts we are putting in. In both the private sector and the government, all hands are on deck and from time to time we organise awareness programmes because it is important to bring these things home.
“Hypo Toilet Cleaner, from Hypo Homecare brand, is very effective. Hypo Toilet Cleaner kills germs, removes tough stains and removes odour. It is capable of killing e-Coli which is a strain of bacteria that is present in every toilet.
“As CSR, we don’t have to just sell our products, we have to also create awareness as a way of adding value to the community.”
Adegoke Kehinde, Sales Partner for Toilet Cleaner, Oyo State, who was among the numerous people at the programme, noted that Hypo Toilet Cleaner was the best product in its category as it kills bacteria and germs in the toilet “and when your toilet is clean, your family is safe so everyone should use Hypo Toilet Cleaner for a safe home and environment.”
