By next Monday, Senator Bola Tinubu will have spent three weeks in office as the president of Nigeria. In the light of this, people are already assessing the performance of his administration. KINGSLEY ALUMONA sampled the opinions of some Nigerians on this matter. Their views:
Demola Adesina
The president started on a good note, with a promising outlook for the nation. A lot of Nigerians truly salute the audacity of his decision on fuel subsidy removal and hope he would not back down on it. So far, his moves have given us belief in a better Nigeria ahead.
Harun Usman
President Tinubu began on a sad note — the announcement of the removal of fuel subsidy stole the expected sweetness of his government. He should have waited to till June. The announcement triggered hardship after surviving Buhari’s bad government. I want Obasanjo back. He is still the best president in Nigeria’s history.
Taiwo Alonso
For me, it is a dawn of a new era for the country. A successful administration would need to take the bull by the horn. May the president succeed.
Omole Opeyemi
President Tinubu has done well by initiating the direction of his government. All efforts made so far are in a good direction.
Adewale Adeniran
Excellent performance so far, with the removal of fuel subsidy, meeting with labour leaders, averting a nationwide strike, working towards a new minimum wage, working towards a single-exchange rate, and meeting with some leaders and heads of industries.
Abdullahi Musa
I am not a fan of the president, but the first step he has taken — removing the subsidy on fuel — shows he has the interest of the nation at heart. The country has been in very bad shape, and for us to restore the lost glory, we must face some hardship, including fuel subsidy removal. We all want a productive country, but that would come at some cost. I believe that is the direction of Mr President for the country – for us to be a producing nation. I believe he would be successful.
Ojo Olumuyiwa
There is no Nigerian leader that has performed the way President Tinubu is performing. He allows dialogue. He has a listening ear and feels the pain of the citizens.
Enehe Shaibu
The president has taken the bull by the horns and is trying to keep the economy in good shape. Although it may be tough and rough, at the end of the tunnel, we shall see light and hope.
