Nnamdi Kanu
The apex socio cultural group of Igede nation of Benue also known as ‘Omi Ny’Igede Development Association’, has distanced itself from the call for the release of Nnamdi Kanu.
The apex socio cultural group made this known on Monday in a statement issued and signed by Dr Ben Okpa and Evang. Samuel Okoh, President General and Secretary General of Omi Ny’Igede Worldwide respectively.
It will be recalled that a group known as ‘Association of Igede Natives of Benue State’, in a report credited to Messrs Obor Mike Omenka and Agori Dennis Eka, President and Secretary had on behalf of the nation called on President Bola Tinubu to release Nnamdi Kanu.
While distancing itself from the report, the apex socio cultural group said in the statement “that we are not aware of the existence of any “Association of Igede Natives of Benue State” headed by the duo as President and Secretary respectively anywhere in the world.
“That the Igede people of Benue State have not met anywhere and at any time to deliberate on issues concerning Nnandi Kanu, talk less of issuing a news statement on it.
“That the apex socio-cultural organisation of Igede people of Benue State is saddled with the responsibility of promoting unity, culture, welfare and aspirations of the people and would not get involved in contentious national issues like the arrest and detention of Nnamdi Kanu.
“That Omi Ny’Igede Development Association has not been able to identify anyone bearing those names across the 36 states of Nigeria and FCT and are therefore regarded as fictitious.
“That in as much as every citizen has the freedom of expression, the above-mentioned publication and radio news porpoted to be on behalf of the Igede people of Benue State is a handwork of mischief makers aimed at creating confusion and derailing the focus of Omi Ny’Igede and the entire Igede people of Benue.”
