The Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Mrs Didi Walson-Jack, on Tuesday, unfolded her vision for rapid transformation of the Federal civil service, saying creativity and innovation will be deployed to fast-track the vision.
According to her, various reform initiatives would be accelerated and accomplished so that at the end of two years, it would be clear that the Office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation would be the standard by which all other Federal Civil Service ministries, extra-ministerial departments, and agencies are measured.
She spoke at a maiden town hall meeting with civil servants in her office under the umbrella of the Joint Union Negotiation Council (JUNC) in Abuja on Tuesday.
She noted that while the implementation of pillar 6 of the Federal Civil Service Strategic and Implementation Plan (FCSSIP) 2021–2025 remains the central vision of her leadership, three core areas of efficiency, accountability, and transparency, and the well-being and development of staff would be emphasised.
She noted that the gathering was first to familiarise ourselves with one another in order to understand and express our thoughts in a convivial and friendly manner in order to establish a good working relationship.
She added it will offer an opportunity to reflect on our shared efforts and commitments to the continued development and progress of the Office of the Head of Civil Service of the Federation and the civil service as a whole.
Walson-Jack said: “We must streamline our processes, embrace technology, and eliminate bottlenecks. We live in a fast-paced world, and the civil service must reflect that reality. We can’t afford to be left behind.
“We serve the public, and they expect results. We will put systems in place to ensure that every task, no matter how big or small, is completed excellently. Accountability is not about blaming but ensuring we deliver our best daily work.
“Our staff are our greatest asset. Your health, both physical and mental, your development, and your job satisfaction matter to me. I want to ensure you have the training, resources, welfare, and support you need to do your job well and thrive.
“As your Head of Service, I will lead by example through openness, collaboration, and continuous improvement. My leadership style will offer support, guidance, and encouragement for our collective interests.
“We are committed to addressing issues that could negatively affect staff morale and productivity. However, I will not tolerate laziness. There will be consequences for those who fail to perform their duties efficiently,” she stated.
Chairman of the Joint Union Negotiation Council, Comrade Sylvester Abba, applauded the Head of Service for the various programmes and initiatives unveiled to achieve transformation of the civil service.
