Violence against children at school, home calls for urgent action

Violence against children, both in school and at home, is a serious issue that affects countless young ones. Many children suffer from physical punishment, bullying and emotional abuse, sometimes even from the very ones that are supposed to care for them. This mistreatment can harm mental health, impact schoolwork, and leave lasting scars.

At home, it is sad to see that some children face violence from parents who may believe they are enforcing discipline. However, such harsh punishment often harms a child’s confidence and can lead to difficulties with learning and social relationship. For many children, home is not the safe place it should be.

Schools too are often a place where children face bullying from classmates and at times, unfair treatment from teachers. Despite laws against it, physical abuse still happens, making such schools an unsafe place for children.

Schools should strictly enforce anti-violence and anti-bullying policies while teachers should be trained in positive ways to give guidance to students.

Parents can also benefit from learning non-violent ways to raise their children, thereby creating a more caring and safer environment at home.

Addressing violence against children requires a united effort from schools, families and communities. By working together, we can create safer spaces where every child has the chance to grow up free from fear and harm.
