There was a mild drama in front of the Bourdillon, Lagos residence of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, Saturday morning, when his wife, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, engaged the area boys in a backchat after casting her vote.
While returning home after casting her vote, Mrs Tinubu was approached by a crowd of people among whom are areas boys, who requested her for money, being their usual way of familiarising themselves with popular figures in the society.
But Mrs Tinubu, addressing the people who had made monetary demands on her said, “Show me your hand, get the money.” It was a light exchange of words between Mrs Tinubu and her admirers, as she spoke with them in a mixture of English and Yoruba.
However, Mrs Tinubu was quick to tell the crowd that she was not into vote-buying, while she urged them to go to their polling booths and cast their votes.
Majority Leader at the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila, has expressed concern on the low voter turnout at the commencement of governorship and house of assembly elections in Lagos.
Mrs Tinubu, earlier after casting her vote at Eti-Osa, polling unit 034 Ward 008, Falomo Police Barracks in Lagos, had commended the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for the smooth take-off of voting in Lagos State.
“Everyone is here, so the excitement is high and INEC has not disappointed us, we are really proud of them,” Mrs Tinubu said.
She urged Nigerians to help one another and to support President Muhammadu Buhari to achieve the next level mandate, contending that the present administration was working well to ensure conducive and better welfare for the nation and its citizenry.
