Up your game with ‘boyfriend’ outfits

The term ‘boyfriend style’ refers to women’s clothing that was modified from a corresponding men’s garment to create a looser fit than the typical women’s tailored styles. Some boyfriend outfits include:

Boyfriend jeans: Borrowed from boys, the boyfriend jean is a free fit, as if they were actually his but tailored for her. Marilyn Monroe began the boyfriend jeans trend in the 1960s when she would often wear loose-fitting jeans in contrast to her extremely feminine looks and create a more masculine beauty.

Because the boyfriend jean is supposed to be free does not mean it should be baggy. If you want to flatter your figure and you generally prefer fitted and tailored clothing, choose a slimmer and more structured boyfriend jean.

Boyfriend shorts: This is a shorter ‘boy’ style. They are great because they are not too short like most denim shorts; instead, they have a little more length. You can wear them to smart-casual events, on lazy beach days, and during hot days.

Boyfriend shirt: The boyfriend shirt is slightly loose and oversized with a somewhat masculine design.  You can pair the shirt with jeans and heels, with denim shorts, leather skirt or leggings. You can even wear it alone if it is long enough or you can try a little bit of DIY (Do It Yourself) when you want to style the shirt.

Boyfriend shoes: Just like the boyfriend shirt and the boyfriend jeans, the boyfriend shoes look like they belong to men.

Boyfriend blazer: Cut slightly larger than the traditional women’s blazer, the boyfriend blazer is tailored in a way that renders them extremely flattering. The blazer is a mix of casual and polished and it is highly comfortable.
