AUTHORITIES of the Osun State University (UNIOSUN), Osogbo, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the University of Gambia and Medical Research Council Unit, The Gambia, on research, students exchange programme and capacity building.
The vice chancellor of UNIOSUN, Professor Labode Popoola, who led the institution’s delegation to The Gambia, said the MoU would further enhance the qualitative educational programme of the institution.
He noted that the development would also improve the overall teaching and research in the university in line with international best practices and the prospects of partnership with the two institutions in key research areas portends immense benefit to UNIOSUN.
Professor Popoola further disclosed that his team discussed extensively with the Director, Research, Training and Capacity Building, of the Medical Research Council Unit, The Gambia, Dr Assan Jaye, on areas of mutual interests and that the discussions culminated in the MoU on staff exchange, students exchange, capacity building, joint grant project writing, funded Ph.D programmes, partner funding programmes, sabbatical leave exchange programme, among others.
He, however, emphasised that the final stage of the agreement between the two institutions is expected to be concluded before the end of the first quarter of 2017.
The UNIOSUN team to The Gambia, led by the VC, include the provost, College of Management and Social Sciences, Professor Dayo Idowu Akintayo; provost of Postgraduate College, Professor Christopher Olutayo Alebiosu; provost, College of Humanities and Culture, Professor Folorunso Kizito; provost, College of Agriculture, Professor Fikayo Babatunde; and provost, College of Law, Professor Olaide Gbadamosi, among others.
