THE bid for contracts for the provision of social amenities by UNICEF and EU intervention in communities in Anambra State has commenced in Awka, Anambra State Capital.
The bid meeting which commenced after the official closure of bid submission yesterday,witnessed a lot of contractors jostling for different lots as advertised.
Speaking with newsmen during the bid meeting, the Programme Manager, Rural Water Sanitation Agency (RUWASSA), Mr Victor Ezekwo, noted that UNICEF and EU have been doing a lot in providing water and ensuring sanitation in communities in the state,with the extension of UNICEF and EU intervention in the state by one year.
Ezekwo said ”It means that there is still ample time to deliver on mandate given them and we promise that the bid will be transparent to ensure quality projects from the best contractor”
The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Power and Domestic Water Supply, Chief Douglas Mba, who represented the Commissioner,emphasized that Anambra State through the leadership of Governor Obiano is always keen in partnering Development Agencies in bringing grassroot development to the people.
He promised that the state will not default in paying its counterpart fund to ensure speedy development at the intervention areas.
For the Field Officer of UNICEF from Enugu, Mr Tony Adisa who remarked that the bid meeting will be transparent,noted that any unethical process will not be accepted in the bid for contracts.
The meeting featured goodwill messages from local government areas where the intervention will be taking place.
