To stem the rate of unemployment and restiveness among youths, no fewer than 67 youths have benefitted from the Petroleum Training Institute (PTI) free Computer Competency Skills Acquisition training in Delta State.
It will be recalled that the Free Computer Competency Skills Acquisition for the beneficiaries kicked off at a ceremony held in the institute’s lecture theatre, Effurun, Uvwie Local Government Area on May 4, 2021.
The youths, under the umbrella of the Urhobo Progress Union ( UPU), were selected from the 24 Kingdoms of the Urhobo nation for a three-month training.
The training, which comprises Computer Appreciation, Internet Literacy, Word Processing and Corel Draw, among others, was part of PTI’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) aimed at empowering the youths to be self-reliant.
Addressing the trainees during the closing ceremony and award of prizes at the Institute on Tuesday, the Principal, Dr Henry Adimula, urged the beneficiaries to swiftly put the skills acquired into use.
“I urge you all to imbibe the Institute’s philosophy to put the skills acquired during the training to practice.
“In other places, it may take up to one and a half years to acquire these skills, but here in PTI, it is completed in three months.
“I am proud to say that PTI is very unique. At PTI, we develop our students to combine theory and practical to produce the desired result,” he enthused.
Dr Adimula further urged the trainees to believe in themselves, in a world being currently driven by information, in order to impact society positively.
He thanked the Ovie of Uvwie Kingdom, His Majesty, Emmanuel Sideso, ( Abe1), who was represented by Chief Hope Erute, President-General of UPU, Olorogun Moses Taiga,
represented by Chief Anthony Onagharigho and PTI management staff for their commitment to the success of the project.
Among other dignitaries present at the ceremony was the President of the UPU youth wing, Ovie Ebireri.
Meanwhile, one of the beneficiaries, Godspower Onobia, who was elated, said he was grateful for the opportunity given to him by PTI to acquire the skills and would hit the ground running.
