A First Class traditional ruler in Kwara State, Oba Solomon Olugbenga Oloyede, has described traditional institutions in Nigeria as a major stakeholder that deserves to be carried along through constitutional role to further stabilise the system at all levels.
Reacting to the statement credited to the Attorney General of the Federation (AGF) and minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi (SAN) on the need to assign some constitutional roles to royal fathers, Oba Oloyede praised the AGF for acknowledging monarchs as leaders that are more closer to the grassroots.
The minister had noted that the insecurity challenges facing people in rural communities would be subdued if traditional rulers are given the expected role to play, especially, as those who best understand their different terrains.
Oba Oloyede, who is the Olusin of Isanlu Isin in the Isin local government area, commended Fagbemi (SAN) for the wonderful thoughts towards involving the traditional institution in the scheme of things.
The Olusin of Isanlu Isin, who is also the chairman, traditional council in the Isin local government area said “such idea is the type that will help in no little way to making the traditional institution relevant in the scheme of things”.
Oba Oloyede said that the state traditional council, under the Emir of Ilorin, Alhaji Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari, is giving maximum support to Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq led administration, which, he said, has no doubt contributed immensely to the peaceful coexistence being enjoyed in the state.
