MALAM Fajemi Jariyi, the traditional ruler of Kpaduma community, Asokoro Extension, FCT has called on the government to make cerebrospinal meningitis vaccine available in the community to avoid the spread of the disease.
Jariyi made the appeal in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Tuesday in Abuja.
He stressed the need for the vaccine to be made available in the community to protect the people against the disease affecting some parts of the country.
The chief also called on the people of community to ensure they kept their houses well ventilated, clean and avoid over-crowding to prevent spread of the disease.
He urged community members to visit health facilities for any ailment rather than rely on self-medication when they noticed any health challenges.
Jariyi further advised parents to always avail their children to the health workers for the free polio immunisation exercise to prevent them from being victims of polio disease.
“The vaccine will protect them from falling victims of polio disease and when affected it is for life,’’ he said.
According to him, ensuring a polio-free status in the country, there should be a collective effort by all stakeholders and the implementation of quality programmes that can reach the target communities in the country.
He therefore urged members of the public to continue to support government initiatives that would further enhance the nation’s development.
