Top 5 prominent people in Nigeria’s music business

Every industry has its share of all-knowing, all-capable individuals who, at the drop of a hat, can turn the tide and alter the course of events. The Nigerian music scene is not unfamiliar with this; during the heyday of Storm Records and the great Kennis Music, it seemed as though all of the top performers in the nation were from one of these camps. However, with the emergence of Mo’hits Records, the most prominent independent label or imprint in Nigeria at the time, this power was decentralized.

1. Ubi Franklin

The former manager of Afro-pop singer Iyanya Mbuk is the first person on this list.

He started his record label Made Men Music Group ( MMG) with Iyanya as his first artist and then rose to sign other artistes like Tekno Miles, Baci, Selebobo, Mystro, Emma Nyra amongst others.

However, what gets him to this list is the array of music business Ubi undertakes.

He wrapped up the deal between Davido and his girlfriend Chioma for Dunes Abuja.

2.  Bankulli:

Internationally, I don’t think there is anybody on this list that can compare to Bankulli on this list.

He recently had a private listening session with Kanye West before the release of the rapper’s album.

Bankulli helped manager D’banj solo career briefly after the Mo’hits record split.

3. Audu Maikori

If this list was done around 5 or 7 years ago Audu will definitely be the leader of this list easily.

The chocolate city music sounder saw his influence dwindle when he handed over the reigns of the label to Jude Abaga also know as M.I.

His company still manages Afrobeat legend Femi Kuti.

4. Idris Olurinnibe:

The imprint with largest roster in Nigeria is Temple Management company, who have an array of talents from sports, business, music and film.

Temple have hands in every aspect of the Nigerian music industry.

He brokered the deal between Iyanya and Don Jazzy.

5. Olugbenga Jackson

After years of involvement in numerous economic sectors, talent manager and businessman Awoyungbo Olugbenga Jackson, commonly known as Jacksonfierce, has developed a plan to enhance investment in the Nigerian entertainment industry through “Fierce Nation.”

He came across musicians Deshiba Joshua and Agbeleshe Olamilekan (Laycon) (RunnJozzy). His newly registered business had been running on a regular basis for about a year.
