The Kuteb ethnic group of Takum local government area in Taraba, on Tuesday, rejected the state high court ruling that struck out the case challenging the decision of the Taraba State Government to make the Ukwe Takum stool rotational among other ethnic and promised to challenge the lower court decision at the appeal court.
Mr. Emmanuel Ukwen, president Kuteb Yatso of Nigeria made the Kuteb position known while briefing journalists in Jalingo, also called the Kuteb people to remain resolute and law abiding as they have asked their legal counsel to file an appeal against the judgment.
Nigerian Tribune reports that a high seating in Jalingo Monday, struck out the case brought by the Kuteb ethnic challenging the decision of governor Agbu Kefas, Taraba state government to make the Ukwe Takum stool which is over 500 years old, a Kuteb dynasty to be rotational among other tribes of of Chamber and Jukun.
Tribune also reports that Governor Kefas had after the high court judgment at about 10: PM, presented a staff of office to three 3rd class chiefs of Chamber- Takum Chiefdom, HRH. Barr. Sopiya Gboshi, Jukun-Takum Chiefdom, HRH. Uhwe Bala Ephraim and Kur Garbabi Chiefdom, HRH. Sulaiman Umar Salihu, and consecutively upgraded the 3rd class chief of Chamber- Takum Chiefdom, HRH. Barr. Sopiya Gboshi as the first class chief of Takum.
Meanwhile, counsel to the Kuteb ethnic, Festus Idebefo (SAN), told journalists that he and his client were not satisfied with the judgment and have agreed to proceed to the upper court.
“Governor Kefas has done the worst of his administration by installing a chamber man as chief of Takum against the original traditional stool of Takum (Ukwe Takum), which is the sole right of the Kuteb people and has been in existence for over 500 years.
“We urge the entire Kuteb people to remain resolute, as we have already instructed our legal counsel to file an appeal against the judgment.
“For us as Kuteb, we will never recognize Barr. Sopiya Gboshi as the first class chief of Takum because (Ukwe), as the tradition defined is the only first-class chief of Takum,” Emmanuel Ukwen, the KYN president stated.
