Gunmen, suspected to be bandits, have killed one person and abducted no fewer than 10 others in some communities in Wushishi, Mashegu, and Shiroro LGAs of Niger State.
The incident occurred on Wednesday morning when the armed men in their numbers rode on their operational motorcycles along their normal route at Kundu with three persons on each motorcycle moving towards Akere and Mashegu local government communities.
It was reliably gathered that the said criminals were over 100 in number. They captured a man whom they asked to climb their bike to guide them, but he was asked to step down and was shot dead. Meanwhile, other people were said to have been abducted separately from their villages.
A community source in an interview said the bandits also rustled cattle and livestock, with many others injured during the unfortunate attack, which lasted for several hours without intervention from the security agencies.
The residents, who begged not to be quoted in the press, said the targeted communities by bandits are Kundu, Garin Gabas, Pangu Gari, Madaka, and Hana Wanka, among others.
Further checks revealed that the terrorists spent hours during the attacks on the ill-fated communities, which include Jiwawa in Kundu ward, Rafi, and other communities in Shiroro local government areas of the state.
Meanwhile, the Niger State Commissioner for Homeland and Security, Maj. Gen. Abdullahi Mohammed Garba (retired), confirmed the incident, highlighting that joint security operatives have been deployed to the affected areas for combat but could not give details of the casualties as of the time of filing the report on Wednesday evening in Minna.
