The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede has charged troops of Operation Whirl Stroke, operating in Benue and surrounding states to stamp out all security challenges in their area of operations to maintain peace and security in the region and the nation as a whole.
This was contained in a statement made available to Defence Correspondents in Abuja on Thursday by the Director of Army Public Relations, Major Gen Onyema Nwachukwu.
According to the statement, Oluyede gave the charge during his maiden operational visit to the headquarters of the Joint Task Force Operation Whirl Stroke in Makurdi, Benue State
The statement reads, “Briefing the COAS, the Commander, Operation WHIRL STROKE, Major General Lewis Lepdung highlighted the successes recorded in the ongoing operations as well as the challenges confronting the troops. The COAS assured the troops of his unflinching support to achieve their operational mandate.”
It added that the Army chief further pledged to prioritise the welfare of the troops and that of their families, as well as provide combat enablers to enhance their operational effectiveness and expedite the attainment of their statutory tasks.
Furthermore, it added that the operational tour also took the COAS to the Nigerian Army School of Military Engineering and the 401 Special Forces Brigade in Makurdi, where he inspected ongoing projects meant to address the acute accommodation shortage and improve the Barracks community’s living standards.
