South East youths hail Senator Orji on water crisis in Abia community

Theodore Orji

The senator representing Abia Central, Sen. Theodore A. Orji has been commended for his quick, timely and decisive intervention in the water crisis that has been plaguing Ukome Community in Ibeku Umuahia.

This commendation came on Friday through a statement by the apex socio-political youth body for all youth groups in the South-eEast region, Coalition of South East Youth Leaders, COSEYL, saying “this is where history has put Sen. Orji in the annals of Ukome community for years to come.”

In a statement signed by Goodluck Egwu Ibem, tge President General and Kanice Igwe, the Secretary General, the group said that in addition to the borehole, Orji had built a primary health centre in the locality.

“We feel delighted at such empathetic gesture of the senator, bearing in mind the difficulty posed by the topography and terrain of Ukome landscape which hindered for long, this blissful moment that looks now like a dream to the almost-forgotten people,” the group eulogised Orji.

“COSEYL noted that “sinking a borehole in such a land required more technology than normal, and persistence as it took 260 metres deep (instead of the normal 120 metres deep) to get the water,” the  said.

The group noted that as part of SDGs, water play a crucial in man’s daily life without which the spread of the pandemic will be heightened and life, unhygienic.

“The Senator is pro-people and pro-poor hence the need for others to study his type of people-oriented politics.

“Only those who understand that access to potable water, which is right the of every human, can make life better any time and any day.

“We are also aware of his other numerous constituency projects including scholarship scheme, attraction and funding of constituency youths, among others.

“We are happy to be associated with the senator whose services to the state and zone remain a matchless record as the senator said let their be water and there was water for Ukome people,” the youths said.
