SON cautions Nigerians against patronising substandard products

SONTHE Standards Organisation of Nigerian, SON, has cautioned Nigerians against patronising substandard products.

The Head of Electrical and Electronics of the Agency in Anambra State, Mr Viginus Omeje gave the advice in an interview with newsmen in Awka, the Anambra state capital.

Mr Omeje an Engineer who itemised food items, mechanical, chemical, civil and building materials as part of goods regulated by Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON), maintained that officials of the Agency always embark on factory inspections to conduct regular tests and to ensure that products and services meet required standards.

He urged Manufacturers to approach the Standards Organisation of Nigeria whenever they want to produce to ensure that their products meet National and International standards before pushing them into the Market.

While calling on consumers to look for the quality trademark issued by the organisation, among others before consumption, the Head of Electrical and Electronics of the Standards Organisation of Nigeria advised the general public to report defaulters to the Organisation as well as shun their products, stressing that substandard products endanger lives, property and affects the economy negatively.

A Socialist, Mr Johnpaul, on his part stressed the need for the Standards Organisation of Nigeria to seek the closer relationship with consumers and professionals, in order to help check substandard products in the country.

Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON) is a Federal Government Agency established through an Act of 1971 as amended charged with the responsibility of developing standards and implementing Federal Government programmes on standardisation to make both imported and locally manufactured products conform to minimum requirements in addition to giving value for money
