The Social Democratic Party (SDP) has expressed concern over an alleged plan to disenfranchise some voters, particularly in Kogi East.
However, the Director of Information for the APC campaign council, Kingsley Fanwo, said, “We are busy campaigning. We don’t have time for their frivolities.”
In a statement issued on Sunday by the Director of New Media, David Ijele, the SDP claimed that a plan was being hatched to establish a situation room in collaboration with certain INEC staff members with the intention of hiring more IT professionals to hack into the Commission’s system with the utmost aim to disenfranchise some voters, particularly in Kogi East.
Ijele also alleged that armoured vehicles have been given to local government chairmen to facilitate their unrestricted movements throughout the state on election day.
“We, therefore, ask the Commission to collaborate with security agencies to enforce restrictions on movements as is customary,” he pleaded.
The party urged the Commission to investigate why its satellites, which were meant to be mounted in Lokoja, the state headquarters of the Commission, ended up in Mopa Moro LGA in Kogi West.
“We want to know the rationale behind relocating such sensitive material at this critical time. We earnestly implore the Commission to give due attention to this alarming information and to initiate close monitoring of the activities of the staff involved,” he added.
The party called for the early deployment of security agencies to Kogi State to safeguard the integrity of the election and protect the lives and property of the electorate.
They expressed gratitude to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for their prompt response and reassurances regarding the earlier concerns raised, as it affects the integrity of some members of the staff of the Commission.
“This is a sign that the Commission is truly committed to conducting a credible, free, and fair election in the forthcoming 11/11/2023 governorship election in Kogi State.”
However, in a swift reaction, the Director of Information for the APC campaign council, Kingsley Fanwo, said, “We are busy campaigning. We don’t have time for their frivolities.”
According to him, “Just yesterday, they lied that we were tampering with BVAS. But INEC had already responded to that and took them to the cleaners to stop spreading lies.
But they won’t stop, since the media is helping them promote the spread of their falsehood. They have time for those things. We are busy on the field,” he said.
