THE increasing habit of dumping waste bins and refuse on roadsides has become a major environmental concern in many communities across the country.
Blocked drainage systems caused by improperly disposed waste have continued to contribute to flooding and erosion.
Dropping of refuse randomly has become rampant in our society, and this is harmful to individuals’ health. Most people dump refuse wherever they find themselves, and this act should not be encouraged.

During heavy rains, heaps of refuse are often seen floating through the drainage, polluting the surroundings, and impeding the free flow of water, leading to damaged roads, infectious environment and the likes. This act could lead to the spread of cholera, malaria, and other diseases.
People should desist from the act of dumping refuse indiscriminately. Government, community leaders and environment health care officials should enforce regulations on hygiene, and punish violators. Fines, or jailed terms should be attached to the offences, as a clean environment births a healthy living.
Let us work together to make our environment clean.
