Despite non-availability of weather data from the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) due to strike action by member staff over poor welfare, some airlines are still flying.
NiMet staff on Wednesday embarked upon an indefinite strike due to poor wages, and other welfare packages due staff.
With the commencement of the strike, some airlines like Air Peace, British Airways suspended operations, stating that they would not fly without weather data.
However, Nigerian Tribune noted that some airlines are still flying on Thursday (the second day of the strike) even though the strike is ongoing.
Tribune noted that airlines like Ibom Air, United Airlines, and others were operating at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport (NAIA) Abuja.
Meanwhile, members of the aviation unions are currently meeting with the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development in his office in Abuja.
The meeting which started about 2:pm on Thursday is still ongoing as at the time of filing this report.
Indications suggest the strike may be called off after the meeting.
NiMet is the Agency under Aviation responsible for providing weather forecasts and data for takeoff and landing of aircraft.
