Rotary Club honours SRS commander over community service

The Rotary Club of Ibadan Jericho Metro has honoured the Commander of the Swift Response Squad (SRS), CSP Babafemi Okunowo, in recognition of his outstanding service to the community and his unit’s contributions to peace and security in Ibadan.

Okunowo was honoured during a courtesy visit to his office by the club’s president, Bimbola Bodede, with other members of the executive, to commend the SRS for its dedication to maintaining law and order across the city.

Bodede presented an award of recognition to Okunowo on behalf of the club, describing him as a committed leader whose efforts have significantly enhanced community safety.

‎She said that effective collaboration between civic groups and security agencies remains crucial to community development and peace building, stressing that Rotary’s partnership with the SRS underscored the organisation’s commitment to fostering safer and more resilient societies.

In his remarks, Okunowo expressed gratitude for the honour, as he spoke on the vital link between culture, peace and education, emphasising the need to meaningfully engage young people in leadership and community development programmes.

He reaffirmed the SRS’s dedication to sustaining peace and security across the state, adding that continued partnerships with organisations like Rotary will further strengthen community trust and cooperation.

The visit, according to Bodede, reflects the club’s ongoing commitment to service and its efforts to build constructive relationships with key stakeholders. It also aligns with Rotary International’s focus on promoting peace, which encourages tolerance, conflict resolution and community harmony.
