Renaissance of Islam through IMA and Crescent University (XV)

Almighty Allah declares in Holy Qur’an, Baqarah 2:183-185 thus: “O ye who believe! Fasting is prescribed to you as it was prescribed to those before you that ye may (learn) self-restraint. . (Fasting) for a fixed number of days; but if any of you is ill or on a journey the prescribed number (should be made up) from days later. For those who can do it (with hardship) is a ransom the feeding of one that is indigent. But he that will give more of his own free will it is better for him and it is better for you that ye fast if ye only knew.  Ramadan is the (month) in which was sent down the Qur’an as a guide to mankind also clear (Signs) for guidance and judgment (between right and wrong). So everyone of you who is present (at his home) during that month should spend it in fasting but if anyone is ill or on a journey the prescribed period (should be made up) by days later. God intends every facility for you He does not want to put you to difficulties. (He wants you) to complete the prescribed period and to glorify Him in that He has guided you; and perchance ye shall be grateful”.

In the expansion of the membership of the IMA Intellectual Summit from 100 to 300 professors into the five colleges and departments, the process of packaging the academic brief for Crescent University, Abeokuta, continued unhindered.

The College of Social and Management Sciences (COSMAS) has the Department of Accounting, Department of Business and Finance, Department of Economics and Actuarial Sciences, Department Mass Communication and Social Sciences, Department of General and Islamic Religious Studies and Department of Political Science and International Relations.

It is important to note that Islamic courses were incorporated into the curricular of all the departments such as Zakat Accounting, Accounting for Islamic Banks and Financial Institutions, Arabic for Beginners, Islamic Financial System and Institutions, Introduction to Islamic Banking, Philosophy of Islam, among others, to enrich the training of students of the university.

Besides, the College of Information and Communication Technology has the Department of Computer Sciences and the Department of Information and Communication Technology.

The College of Natural and Applied Sciences has the Department of Chemical Sciences, Department of Biological Sciences, Department of Mathematical Sciences and Department of Physical Sciences.

Moreover, the College of Environmental Sciences has the Department of Architecture, Department of Estate Management, Department of Environmental and Water Resources Management and Department of Urban and Regional Planning.

And the College of Law has the Department of Commercial and Property Law, Department of Jurisprudence and International Law and Department of Islamic Law.

In the course of the IMA Academic Summit for the realisation of the academic brief and university law, we still engaged in the provision of the 100 hectares of land for the university, the university’s master plan and N500 million bank guarantee.

Thus, Surveyor A. Adeaga, former member of the Ogun State House of Assembly in the Second Republic, got us 100 hectares of land for the university, as our consultant at Wasinmi, in Ewekoro Local Government.

But later Judge Bola Ajibola, SAN, realised that he had an estate at Adehun, Ayetoro Road, Abeokuta, that had been abandoned for long, which was now the location of Crescent University, Abeokuta.

The physical planning and building started in earnest as Judge Ajibola decided to sell two property in London, United Kingdom, one in the United States and 10 in Lagos to fund the university.

On my appeals that the selling of the property couldn’t meet up with our budget of N2.5 million to build the university in 2003, Judge Ajibola said that he had taken the decision long time ago in his commercial law legal practice that he would eventually sell all his property to serve humanity, especially based on the sad experiences of some of his clients on their demise.

He mentioned some of their names to me, saying that lots of the family members of his clients had many frictions that led to bickering and killings which were most unfortunate.

Thus, he asked me to intensify our requests for help in the Arab world, especially Egypt, where I was based since 2001 and moving round Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Jordan, Kuala-Lumpur, Malaysia and others.

May Almighty Allah accept our acts of da’wah as acts of worship, Ameen.
