Afrobeats star Divine Ikubor, popularly known as Rema, made a major donation of ₦105 million to a Christ Embassy church in Benin, Edo State, on Sunday.
The generous contribution was announced during a Sunday service, where Rema expressed his gratitude to the church for its support and spiritual guidance.
In a viral video from the service, Rema stated: “I’m not here to give myself any accolades or glory. I’m here to give God the glory.
“I feel like it is important to give back because the church has embraced, prayed for me, and has kept me very consistent with my spirit.”
Rema’s donation included ₦40 million pledged towards the church’s infrastructure, ₦20 million for the Rhapsody of Realities, and ₦25 million dedicated to the infrastructure of the church’s teen ministry.
Additionally, he pledged ₦20 million to support widows within the church community.
The artist also shared a personal story, recalling how the church supported his family following the death of his father.
He said: “When I was eight years old, when I lost my dad, we felt very lost and abandoned. All that we had was taken from us and we felt very alone.
“I remember at the time Pastor Joy and Pastor Thomas, the pastors of this church, they opened a shop for my mum and that was what she managed to take care of us.”
Tribune Online reported that Rema arrived in Benin on Tuesday for his much-anticipated homecoming concert.
Rema was also honoured with a royal plaque from the Oba of Benin, who welcomed him at his palace ahead of the concert.
