The Foundation for Human Rights and Anti-Corruption Crusade (FHRACC) has stated that the presidential order asking oil multinationals to relocate their headquarters to the Niger Delta will engender a lasting peace in the volatile region.
National President of the group, Alaowei Cleric Esq, who lauded Acting President Yemi Osinbajo on the directive, made the disclosure in a statement signed and made available to journalists in Warri, Delta State.
The rights activist also enjoined the Federal Government to include the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) in the list of oil companies to relocate their headquarters to the region.
According to him, “The directives given by the Acting President, Prof Yemi Osinbajo to Multi National oil companies to relocate their corporate headquarters to the Niger Delta region has vindicated us.
His call is one of the best initiatives by government to achieve lasting peace in the region.
It is the greatest disservice to the host communities in the Niger Delta region for the oil companies to have their corporate headquarters located in cities outside the region.
This is one of the major factors that keeps on stirring the tide of militancy in the creeks.
For the Government to achieve a lasting solution to the oil crisis in the region, it must compel all the oil majors to relocate their head offices to the Niger Delta.
We throw our weight behind Prof Osinbajo’s presidential directives.
“We are quite sure that his suggestion is the sure path to lasting peace in the region.”
He urged Osinbajo to ensure that the directive does not end up as a talk show, adding that it should be implemented to the letter and swiftly too.
“We call on the Acting President to implement its decision with immediate effect.”
The implementation should also cover NNPC.
Any oil corporation that flouts the Government’s decision should be treated as enemy of peace and Niger Delta.
Mr Acting President should not back down on its decision.
This is the sure path to peace in the region.
There can be no guaranteed peace in the region if the oil companies in collaboration with the Nigerian government keeps on pillaging the Niger Delta people of our resources.
The Government should know that it has just hit the sour point.
We are waiting for its implementation,” Cleric reiterated.
