The wife of the Zamfara State Governor, Hajiya Huriyya Dauda Lawal, has concluded the distribution of 50,000 food packages to vulnerable households across the 14 local government areas of the state as part of the 2026 Ramadan humanitarian outreach.

In a statement issued by her Press Secretary, Rabi Yusuf, the initiative was described as one of the largest coordinated humanitarian interventions undertaken by the Office of the First Lady.

The statewide distribution, which ended with a closing ceremony in Gusau, followed a structured schedule to ensure equitable access for beneficiaries in both urban and rural communities.

The outreach began in Shinkafi and Zurmi, moved through Birnin Magaji and Kaura Namoda, then Gummi and Bukkuyum, Anka and Talata Mafara, Maradun and Bakura, as well as Maru and Bungudu, before concluding in Tsafe and Gusau.

Each of the 50,000 food packages contained 20kg bags of rice, beans, maize, and millet; 5kg of sugar; spaghetti; cooking oil; salt; and clothing materials for women. The intervention was designed to cushion the effects of rising food prices and provide relief to families observing the holy month of Ramadan.

To ensure transparency and accountability, ward-level distribution committees were inaugurated across the state. The committees worked in collaboration with local government chairmen and community stakeholders to identify beneficiaries and supervise the distribution process. The Office of the First Lady maintained a zero-tolerance policy for diversion or favoritism.

In addition to the general distribution, Hajiya Huriyya Lawal, in her capacity as Ambassador of the Zamfara State Zakkat and Endowment Board, also supervised a targeted intervention for widows, orphans, and other vulnerable groups. Beneficiaries in this category received 25kg of rice, ₦20,000 cash support, and clothing materials to ease their hardship during the fasting period.

The First Lady expressed appreciation to the Zamfara State Governor, Dauda Lawal, for his continued support and commitment to policies prioritizing citizens’ welfare. She also acknowledged the contribution of the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Ahmed Garba Yandi, for his collaboration on the Ramadan initiative for the third consecutive year.

Commendation was further extended to the leadership of the Zamfara State Zakat and Endowment Board, including its Chairman, Sheikh Ahmad Bin Umar Kanoma, and Executive Secretary, Malam Habib Balarabe Zawiyya, for their role in ensuring the assistance reached intended beneficiaries.

The statement noted that the successful completion of the 2026 Ramadan Food Package Distribution Tour underscores the Office’s continued focus on humanitarian service, social protection, and inclusive development. It also offered prayers for sustained peace, unity, and progress in Zamfara State and Nigeria at large.
