PROTESTERS took over the Diplomatic Zone, Abuja on Monday to express their dismay over what they saw as President Muhammadu Buhari’s attempt to decapitate the judiciary.
The protesters led by members of the opposition and Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) stormed the premises of Western Embassies including the United States and the United Kingdom to make their feelings known about Buhari’s suspension of Justice Walter Onnoghen as the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN).

Traffic at the Diplomatic Zone through the Airport Road Abuja grounded to a halt as the protesters in convoy of vehicles and many walking, snaked their way through the area dancing to loud music.
They also carried banners with various inscriptions directed against President Buhari including: “PMB, don’t destroy democracy”, “Full blown dictatorship in Nigeria”, “No to impunity”, CJN’s removal first step of rigging”, “Respect the constitution”, among others.
The protests were peaceful at the time of this report.
