While the Chief Ndubisi Nwobu led PDP executive claims to be the recognized executive council by National Headquarters, Abuja, another group championed by the Legal Adviser of the elected executive, Dr Nwadozie Ndubisis, the State Vice Chairman Anambra South and Marcel Jackeline Anyiam also claimed to be in control.
The group accused Nwobu of abandoning his duty to join what they called illegal committee and declared his position vacant.
But Ndubisi said, “Nwobu has abandoned his position as state party chairman, littered his executive members. His chairmanship position is now vacant. Nwobu is no longer the party chairman, while the state secretary, Sir Emeka Obi is now acting as the chairman, because our tenure will last for 4 years having been elected in December 2017.
However, Nwobu who had briefed the press earlier today maintained that he is the authentic state chairman, having been recognized by the party national headquarters Abuja.
Nwobu, however, accused external forces of sponsoring some people to generate problems in the party to disrupt their preparations for the 2019 general election. He did not, however, rule out that some members aggrieved or agitating for one thing or the other, but advised them to follow the right channel rather than invading and locking up the state secretariat.
“There is always the need to act with the ambit of civility. Everybody has the right to express his or her thought, and when expressed in the ambit of civility, it is welcome. If some party members were aggrieved over certain developments or action taken, they should tell the chairman and not lock up party office.
“The incident this morning is very unfortunate. This group came with hordes of thugs. I was elected chairman on September 4,” the decision to take up the chairman of Transition Committee is a National agreement supported by former Governor, Peter Obi, members of the National Assembly and I can’t be an island.
“If a few are not happy with the development, they should buy up complain or petitions, then we look into it.
TribuneOnline investigation reveals that Trouble started yesterday when Nwobu arrived at the party secretariat but could not enter as it was locked up.
He said, “I was locked up outside by these same marauders. It was unwarranted. They don’t have to hire thugs to come here. They came with a view to see if they can truncate PDP, but they failed.
“We had a peaceful 3-man Ad Hoc and state congress and states delegate congress,” adding that whoever complains that he or she is not carried along is not economical with the truth.
In his argument, Ndubisi said the Secretary who is now the Acting Chairman, Sir Emeka Obi called an executive meeting yesterday morning only for us to see the party office locked, adding that later Policemen attached to the (Chairman) Nwobu took over the office.
“However, he said the timely arrival of some policemen served bloodbath at the Anambra Secretariat, adding that the state Commissioner of Police invited everybody including, members of the caretaker committee, the state Chairman among others to a meeting at the state command, Amawbia.
“We presented our count order to police,… we have a mandate to serve out our 4 years tenure. The chairman has absconded. The secretary will sermon us to a meeting.
“Abuja has been contacted on this matter and they said they recognized the elected caretaker committee. We have a counting order recognizing the elected Exco member “Ndubisi is no longer the state Chairman. He has resigned and accepted to be caretaker committee chairman.
Corroborating Ndubisi, the state Vice Chairman, Anambra South, Marcel Jackeline Anyiam said they were elected December 4, 2017, the National Congress was held on Dec 9, and the National Chairman appointed new caretaker Committee to head Anambra, but there was no Congress and we went to court and got judgment in our favour. The National urged us to withdraw the court order, but same court order returned Nwobu. For past 9 months, we have issues with the National, they went to create divide and rule in Anambra. Nwobu has abandoned all of us to take the position of chairman caretaker committee.
He said however that Police advised the factions to resolve the matter since it is a family matter.
Meanwhile, Policemen have locked up the state party’s office, with stern looking and armed security operative watching over the secretariat.
