Crack policemen from the Force Intelligence Bureau, Abuja have nabbed an alleged notorious land grabber in Edo State
The Edo State Police spokesman, Mr. Kontongs Bello who confirmed the arrest toexplained that the Edo State Police Command was yet to be briefed of the allegations against the suspect who was identified as Glory Ikponmwosa.
Besides charges of land grabbing, Ikponmwosa who is popularly known as Shina Rambo is also said to have a hand in kidnapping,
assassinations, sponsorship of violence in communities, stockpiling of arms among other heinous crimes.
A police source disclosed that Shina Rambo was arrested around 2 am on Thursday by policemen from the Force Intelligence Bureau, Abuja.
According to the source, the suspect allegedly engaged the policemen from the force headquarters in a three-hour gun battle before he eventually succumbed to the superior fire power of the law enforcement agents.
Ikponmwosa was also said to have seriously kicked against Governor Godwin Obaseki for signing the Edo State Private Property Protection law 2021 which abolished Okaighele, a violent youth group which was notorious for violent land grabbing.
The source disclosed: “Items recovered from the suspect include ammunition, bullets and cartridges. Reliable information reveals that he was arrested for alleged serial assassinations, sponsorship of violence in communities, kidnapping, stockpiling of arms (including sophisticated weapons like Ak-47) etc.
He said that Shina Rambo reportedly led and sponsored a futile protest to the Palace of the Oba of Benin, Omo N’Oba Ewuare 11 against the Edo State Government for signing into law the Edo State Private Property Protection law 2021, which abolished okaighele, the violent youth association.
He added: “There are several petitions bothering on criminal activities in various police divisions in Edo state against him but he has always managed to evade arrest until now.”
Kontongs said: “The arrest was done by operatives from Federal Intelligence Bureau (FIB) FHQ Abuja and not operatives of the Edo state police command. I don’t know for what crimes he was arrested for.”
