Police arraign man over alleged possession of illicit drug

THE Police in Kano on Friday arraigned a 50-year-old man, Terna Paul, at a Chief Magistrates’ Court for allegedly possessing 182 wraps of substance suspected to be Indian hemp.

The defendant, who lives at Badawa Quarters, Kano, is standing trial on a charge of possessing cannabis.

The Prosecutor, Insp. Pogu Lale told the court that the defendant committed the offence on June 20, 2019, at about 2 p.m. at Na’ibawa Quarters, Kano.

He alleged that 182 wraps of dry leaves suspected to be Indian hemp were found in possession of the defendant.

Lale said that the offence contravened section 20(1)(c) of the NDLEA Act Cap 30 LFN as (Amended).

But, the defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The Chief Magistrate, Muhammad Jibril, ordered the remand of the defendant in prison custody and adjourned the matter until Aug.1.
