A prominent Ibadan indigene and senatorial aspirant in Oyo South, Dr. Fola Akinosun, has advocated that Olubadan’s salary and emoluments be placed under the responsibility of the state government.
Dr. Akinosun made the call on Thursday at the Ibadan Home Office of a socio-cultural organisation, Ibadan Support Group, an affiliate of the Council of Ibadan Indigenes, Kano State (CIIK) during the official presentation of the letter of appointment as patron of the organisation.
He observed the gesture will further make Governor Ajimobi’s name to feature prominently in the annals of history.
According to him, the Olubadan embodies the core essence and values of Ibadan people and, therefore, must be treated with utmost regard.

He appealed to the revered members of Ibadan traditional council to forget their differences and work together in one accord for the restoration of the glory of Ibadanland because development can only take place or be sustained in an atmosphere devoid of crisis and acrimony.
He averred that Ibadan could not afford to take the back seat through bickering and disharmony in whatever guise being the capital and pride of the Yoruba nation.
“It must be borne in our minds that people will relate to us the way we present ourselves. The British will never joke with the position of the Queen, the Benin people will always pray for their Oba before praying for themselves. It is the same in Igbo land. In fact, the Hausa man will not break his fast until the Sultan of Sokoto declares he has sighted the moon,” he said.
While promising to join hands with other well-meaning sons and daughters of the town to take Ibadanland to loftier heights, the senatorial aspirant called on those resident outside the ancient city to always remember their roots and contribute meaningfully to its well-being.
Earlier, the chairman of the organisation, Prince Armstrong Muji Bello, described Dr Akinosun as a beacon of hope whose contributions to the development of his hometown, state and the country at large cannot be overemphasised.
He said Akinosun’s uncommon traits of selflessness, service, sacrifice and commitment to the general good were inspirational and worthy of emulation and noted the organization was proud to be associate with him.
