Peaceful coexistence contributes to development, good governance in Nigeria ―DON

THE Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Igbariam, Vice Chancellor, Professor Fedelis Uzochukwu Okafor, on Sunday said the existing peaceful relationship among people of diverse tribes and religions contributed to massive development and good governance enjoyed in the Country. Okafor stated this where he was conferred with a Papal Knight at the St Patrick Cathedral Church Awka. ”As we celebrate this Investiture, let me congratulate our Christian brothers and sisters for God’s Mercy that has seen us to the end of this moment. “The dividends of democracy and good governance that we enjoy in Anambra state in particular and Nigeria in general today is as a result of the existing peaceful relationship among residents. ”There is no doubt that more development can be achieved when there is peace and tranquillity in our great country.

”The democracy in the country has come to stay despite its challenges, but we can grow as a nation when we love and tolerate one another irrespective of our language, tribe or religion. “We stand to benefit more as a united nation. I urge us to always remember to pray for our dear country and state; let us unite together and build a very strong nation that our children will be proud of, he said.

The University Don, urged other Knights to utilise the Knighthood Investiture celebrations to pray for the success of the Governor Willie Obiano led-administration and the forthcoming Governorship election, slated for November 18, this year in the State.

Also speaking, at the occasion  People Democratic Party (PDP),candidate, Dr Oseloka Henry Obase, urged residents to support and vote the PDP in November 18 election, for good governance and accountability.

Obaze said it was his belief that a solid infrastructural base under his watch would help accelerate economic development of the state. I Am going to fulfilled my electoral promise of providing infrastructure for the development of our state, if the mandate is given to me. My administration is not going to compromise in the delivery of dividends of democracy of all sectors of the economy to our people, he noted.

In his sermon, The Bishop of Awka Dioceses, Rev Dr Paulinius Ezeokafor, urged Christians to be kind to their fellow human beings and emulate Jesus Christ in their relationship with others. He noted that Jesus Christ during his time was able to convert many of his followers to Christendom because of his exemplary behaviour. ”I appeal to us to always remember the saying of our Lord Jesus Christ that ‘No one is a Christian yet, until what he wants for himself is what he wants for his brother. ”I also urge us as Christians to imbibe the tenets of the fasting and prayers by desisting from sins and other vices capable of undermining the teaching of Christ, he said.
