A coalition of political leaders led by former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has claimed vindication following recent high-profile defections from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The defections include notable figures such as former Delta State Governor Peter Okowa and incumbent Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, along with his cabinet members and state assembly lawmakers.
Salihu Lukman, a key figure in the coalition, stated that the defections were not unexpected, citing previous warnings about PDP governors working to undermine their party and support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election in 2027.
Lukman predicted that more PDP governors would soon join the APC.
The coalition dismissed concerns about Nigeria becoming a one-party state, vowing to provide Nigerians with formidable options in the 2027 elections.
Lukman revealed that the coalition would soon unveil its structures and strategy for challenging the APC.
The coalition also called on PDP leaders to use the current situation to reinvent themselves, addressing issues such as candidate imposition and godfatherism.
Despite the defections, the coalition remains committed to its goal of presenting viable alternatives to Nigerians in 2027.
