The Oyo State Government has taken a significant step forward in advancing its waste-to-wealth agenda by conducting an on-site inspection of a proposed 44-acre integrated recycling facility.

The site, located at Elere Village along the Ido–Eruwa Road in Ibadan, is envisioned as a major hub for sustainable waste management and resource recovery in the state.

Leading the inspection team was the Honourable Commissioner for Environment and Natural Resources, Honourable Ademola Aderinto, accompanied by key members of the ministry’s management. The visit was aimed at evaluating the site’s preparedness for development, as well as ensuring that all necessary environmental and regulatory standards are strictly adhered to.

During the assessment, technical consultants and project experts presented comprehensive briefings outlining the facility’s operational structure, environmental protection measures and anticipated socio-economic impact. These insights highlighted the project’s alignment with global best practices in waste management and sustainable development.

According to the project team, the proposed facility will deploy advanced technologies to transform municipal waste into a range of valuable products. These include electricity generation, biofuels, organic fertilisers, construction-grade materials and other reusable resources, thereby turning waste into economic assets.

In his remarks, Honourable Aderinto underscored that the selection of the site was carried out with utmost diligence, prioritising the safety and well-being of surrounding communities. He noted that careful consideration was given to safeguarding air and water quality, ensuring that the project does not pose environmental or health risks.

He further explained that the facility will feature modern sanitary landfill systems engineered to achieve up to 97 per cent material recovery efficiency. This approach will drastically reduce the volume of residual waste, leaving only a minimal fraction for safe and controlled disposal.
