MINISTER of Works, Power and Housing, Mr Babatunde Fashola, has commended the Oyo State government for donating four hectares of land to the Federal Ministry of Housing for part of its housing projects in the state.
The minister, who visited Governor Abiola Ajimobi, after inspecting the ongoing Federal Government projects in the state, on Friday, also applauded the government for the quality of its infrastructural development.
According to Fashola, “we are here to assess the level of development of federal projects and the relationship of our officers with the officers of the state, towards having a harmonious coordination of both in executing projects.
“I commend the administration of Governor Ajimobi for the four hectares of land donated to the Federal Ministry of Housing for part of its housing projects in the state. I wish to appeal to the government for donation of 10 more hectares for immediate construction of more housing units as it was included in the 2017 budget.
“I also want to commend the efforts of the state Commissioners for Works and Lands. I want to urge them to keep up with the cooperation they are giving our people from the federal ministries,” he added.
Fashola said the federal roads as well as the federal housing projects in and around Oyo State have created over 3,000 jobs for the youth and people of the state.
Responding, Ajimobi promised that the 10 hectares of land requested, would be available in the next two weeks and commended the minister for his ability to manage with efficiency, three important ministries, Works, Power and Housing.
Ajimobi said the road projects were very important to commercial activities in and around the state, saying that good roads were needed for mass movement of products and services.
“We welcome you to our ancient setting which is currently going through modernisation and believe you have seen during the inspection the ongoing physical transformation of our environment. Rest assured, in the next two weeks, the needed 10 hectares of land will be made available for the housing projects.
“The road projects are vital to the development of our state and people as they allow for mass movement of finished and unfinished products to and from the state. This will empower our people in agriculture and commerce,” Ajimobi emphasised.
