Over 9,000 flood victims get relief materials in Sokoto

Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal of Sokoto State on Monday distributed relief materials to over nine thousand families displaced by flood in Silame local government area of the state.

The Governor revealed that over forty million Naira was spent in purchasing the materials that comprised rice, maize, millet, guinea corn, atampa and brocade.

He, however, explained that considering the severity of the incident, more relief materials would be provided to the people affected by the menace after due consultations.

While sympathizing with the victims, people of the local government and the entire state and prayed to Allah to prevent the recurrence of the incident, he urged people of the state to avoid building houses or erecting structures on waterways or dumping refuse in drainages.

Tambuwal also reiterated the commitment of his administration to executing programmes and policies aimed at uplifting the welfare of the people in all the nook and crannies of the state.

The governor, however, presented the materials to the District head of Katami, representative of District head of Silame and that of Gande on behalf of the victims of the flood from their respective domains.

Speaking earlier, the sole Administrator of Silame, Alh Bello Mohammed Gumki thanked the governor for his quick response to the plight of the flood victims and prayed Allah to reward him abundantly.

Also speaking, the District head of Katami, Alhaji Usman Garba Katami, who spoke on behalf of the beneficiaries praised the state government for its concern to the welfare of its people.

The Sarkin Yamman Katami also appealed to the state government to look into the possibility of constructing the three kilometres road that linked the area to Kebbi state.

The Governor later went round to inspect the areas affected by the flood in Katami town.
