Bishop Joseph Akinfenwa of Anglican Communion, Ibadan Diocese.
One of the things we rely upon is the grace of God. When we pray, we believe God is leading us. But from the ordinary level, it is a disappointment that up till now, we have not got out of the wood. It is unfortunate that we are still doing money politics; sword, gun politics, and so on. It is a great disappointment and no party is spared. All of them are guilty. I don’t know how long we will be in this kind of doldrums of politics of wickedness and bitterness.
We should all cultivate the habit of sportsmanship. If you don’t get it now, you can try next time. But what we are witnessing today is worse than what happened in the past. The mystery of it all is that God is still showing that He is with us.
Chairman, Christian Association of Nigerian (CAN), Kano State chapter, Reverend Adeolu Samuel Adeyemo
I call on INEC to be truthful to all, irrespective of political parties. INEC has a lot to do to win the confidence of the citizens by ensuring their votes count. I call on all those that won at the poll to be magnanimous in victory; to extend their hands of friendship and fellowship to other contestants for the good and development of their states. I urge all Nigerians to be committed in their prayers for a peaceful nation. We should seek God’s mercy and intervention in the affairs of Nigeria. Kano State and Nigeria at large needs absolute peace, stability and progress,” he added.
Prophet Bayode Olubo of Housefavour Church, Lagos.
It is not as if Nigeria is not ripe for democracy. The challenge is that the clique that is still ruling us are the people that want to take charge of the country. But amazingly, there is no power that can be without God’s ordain.
The certainty of where we are going as a nation is not clear. The outcome of the election is a clear indication of an unclear vision of Nigeria. The election clearly exposed the height of the selfishness of many politicians and their quest for undeserved relevance.
It is not as if we are not matured. What we need is prayer. It is an act of foolishness to tell someone who is 59 years old that he is not mature. I insist, prayers cannot be too much, because we have not come to the end of the show of what has just commenced.
Nigeria will experience strange things that will shock everyone because God has His own plan for Nigeria. It is sad that the ship of the nation is not balance.
Senior pastor of Christ Apostolic Church headquarters in Sokoto and one of CAN’s observers at the election, Pastor Simeon Olorunfemi
“The Election in Sokoto State was peaceful compared to other places and I will describe this as answered prayer. I commend the INEC and the security officials for being professional in the discharge of their duties during the elections. I was impressed with what I saw when monitoring the election at the Bello Way area of Sokoto town.
The turnout was impressive at both the Presidential and Gubernatorial elections. People’s franchise was not denied and I feel this is one of the ways our democracy can grow. We thank God for the outcome and we are still praying that the areas that were declared inconclusive will come and go without any crisis.
The Federal Government should ensure that democracy is not endangered at the bye-election as citizens await the integrity and competence of INEC and security agencies.
