Osun State Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke, on Friday inducted 1,150 cadets into the State Security Network Agency, known as Amotekun Corps.
During the passing-out parade held at the NYSC Orientation Camp in Ede, he urged the new Amotekun trainees to demonstrate their patriotic commitment to service.
The governor emphasised, “You must be dedicated anti-crime fighters. Avoid corruption and any behavior that violates the law. You are expected to be good ambassadors of the service in your daily operations.”
“To the leadership of the service, you should continue the implementation of the reform without let or hindrance. The service must be more visible in various corners of the state. You are to also clean up the internal structure of the service. You should feel free to weed out any personnel whose agenda is contrary to the mandate of the service.”
“Additionally, the leadership of the service must maintain internal and external synergy. Internally, the leadership must be united to pursue the agency mandate. Your management practices must be all-inclusive and goal-oriented.”
“Externally, the service leadership must ensure close synergy in operational matters with other security agencies. Amotekun service must work jointly and closely with the police, the DSS, and other security agencies. This is a must as all agencies have the same goal of crime free Osun State.”
“In line with our administration’s commitment to the security of lives and properties, I assure the leadership and the rank and file of the service that our administration is focussed on full execution of the upgrade agenda. We will provide you with the required tools to work.”
“I am also glad to note that the service now has a sound legal framework. The amended law has removed loopholes in the previous enactment. Under the new legal structure, the service has a full range of opportunities to be a rewarding member of the security architecture.”
“As part of legal reforms, the service is also to be considered as a beneficiary in the planned security trust fund”, he submitted.
In his speech, the Board Chairman of the Corps, AIG Wale Abass (RTD) said, “we witness the induction of One thousand, One Hundred and Fifty cadets into the Osun State Security Network Agency (Amotekun Corps)—an achievement that represents a key development in the ongoing enhancement of the State’s security architecture. It is a testament to the commitment of our Governor to ensuring the safety and well-being of the people of Osun State.”
“On behalf of the entire Amotekun Corps, I wish to express our deepest appreciation to His Excellency, Governor Adeleke, for his responsive leadership and the tremendous support he has provided to make today’s achievement a reality. Without his backing, the recruitment, training, and successful integration of these new officers into our security framework would not have been possible.”
“We however humbly urge Your Excellency to kindly approve the immediate gazetting of these operatives into the service so that their status can be legally recognized. This will not only grant them a sense of dignity and belonging but will also motivate them to discharge their duties with utmost commitment and professionalism. By formalizing their employment, you will be strengthening the foundation of the Amotekun Corps as a formidable force in the fight against crime.”
“We respectfully seek your continued support in providing the Corps with Operational Vehicles: 1 Hilux trucks per local government, 40 for the headquarters.”
“Motorcycles : 10 per local government, 100 at the headquarters.
Firearms: A minimum of 310 pump-action rifles for the 31 LGAs and an additional 1,000 for statewide operations.”
“Modern walkie-talkies to improve coordination. Surveillance Drones: For intelligence gathering and crime prevention. Body Armor & Tactical Gear: To enhance operational safety. These tools are essential for ensuring rapid response to security threats, especially in remote and high-risk areas.
“To our gallant operatives, today marks the beginning of a new chapter in your lives. You have been chosen to serve and protect the people of Osun State. Your duty requires courage, discipline, and unwavering dedication. Always remember that your primary responsibility is to ensure the safety and security of our communities.”
“As you step into the field, uphold the highest standards of professionalism, integrity, and respect for human rights. The people of Osun State are looking up to you for protection. Never betray the trust placed in you.”
