The group said this in a statement signed by its Programme Director, Abdul Lateef Sanni and National Secretary, Hammed Temilade, copy of which was made available to the Nigerian Tribune in Lagos, noting that the Senate needed to do this in order to do the nation good and save the distinguished name of the hallowed chambers from unnecessary allegations.
Senator Misau had accused the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Ibrahim Idris, of making N10 billion monthly, and by extension, N120 billion yearly from use of the policemen and women by corporate organizations and highly placed individuals across the country, an allegation the IGP has since denied as the latter went further that the senator was still a serving officer but only deserted the Force since 2010.
Misau also accused the former IGP and now Chairman, Police Service Commission (PSC), Mr Michael Okiro, of making money through posting and promotion of police commissioners and top police officers.
The group described all the allegations as laughable, cheap blackmail, distraction and deliberate acts to derail investigation by the police on how Misau left the Force without following due process.
“The Senate will do the nation good by asking him to return to the Nigeria Police Force to face disciplinary committee and answer all the charges bordering on serious misconduct, unprofessional wrong doings, as earlier contained in our press statement released on 27th August, 2017.
“The SDI hereby calls on the Senate to order ‘Senator’ Hamma Isah Misau to go back to the police and clear himself to save the distinguished name of the hallowed chambers of the National Assembly from unnecessary allegations,” the group said.
This was as SDI, who contended that Misau’s real name while serving in the police was Mohammed Isa Hamma, with police number AP No. 57300, charged the senator to explain to Nigerians some allegations also raised against him “before he could be qualified to allege corrupt accusations against Okiro, a former IGP and the incumbent IGP, Idris.”
According to the group, Misau should explain, “How he could contest for election as a candidate of the defunct ACN for the Senate in 2011, if and when he actually retired from the Force in March 2014, according to a purported letter of retirement bearing 2014.
“How and when his names changed from DSP Mohammed Isah Hamma to Senator Isah Hamma Misau, without any official change of name notification published in any newspaper submitted to the Nigeria Police Force and for the general public? What documents/certificates did DSP Mohammed Isah Hamma tender to the party and INEC for clearance as Hamman Isah Misau to stand for election?
“Let him also debunk, with proofs, the claims by the Nigeria Police Force spokesman, Jimoh Moshood, that he ‘was parading a forged retirement letter and everything Misau said is false.”
