The All Progressives Congress (APC), Local Government Congress in Ondo State, was conducted on Saturday by generally peaceful in the 18 councils areas in the state as the congress was conducted by consesus arrangement.
Party members who participated in the congress came out at as early as 9am as accreditation and voting commenced at 10am after leaders of the party had earlier agreed to use the consensus method to select local government leaders of the party.
In some of the local government areas visited by our correspondent, which include, Akure South, Akure North, Ifedore and Idanre, members only affirmed the consensus list after the names were read out.
The chairman of the congress committee, Mr Gboyega Isiaka, expressed delight that the stakeholders worked, according to the lay down rules.
He said issues arising from the ward congresses had been resolved adding that all necessary materials have been distributed.
The party’s chairman in the state, Mr Ade Adetimehin, said the congress, was a mere formality as neccessary things had been done by stakeholders to ensure a hitch free exercise.
Adetimehin commended members of the party for conducting themselves in a peaceful manner and for making the work of the congress committee easier.
He said, “The local government Congress is going on peacefully in Ondo State and we are doing it as required by the law.”
“Ondo State is a state to be proud of under APC. Ondo APC members are well organised. They comport themselves to the rules and regulations.
“We held a stakeholders meeting and it was unanimously agreed that we are going to select our executive through consensus.”
“Our ward congress is the best across the country and we are going to build on it. All the leaders agreed on consensus.
The Secretary of Akure South local government, Hon Gbenga Fashua, said the party picked the best hands to pilot its affairs at the local level.
“We have been able to have a successful congress. This is the first time all leaders of the party agreed on consensus list. We are united in Ondo APC. Other parties should come and learn from us,” he said.
