In the petition written by the family and signed by the Head of the family, Bishop Clement Aladegbaye Falodun accused the Provost of the Institution, of flouting the court judgment by selling parts of the land in question to unsuspecting members of the public.
An Akure High Court presided by Justice Adegbpyega Adebusoye had in 2012 given Right of Occupancy of a land with Survey Plan No JOE/OD/777/88 with Beacon Pillars No PBE 260 to PEB 2672, AFA 8,720 and 8,721 to the Okutanla/Ogunmokun.
The Court in a suit which has the Federal Ministry of Land, Housing and Urban Development, Abuja; Federal Ministry of Agriculture (FECA); and the Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Abuja as defendants also granted an order restraining the FECA and the Federal Government, their agents, privies, agents and any persons from committing any act of trespass or further acts of trespass on the family land.
But the family in the petition accused the Provost of violating the court’s judgment by selling parts of the land in question to unsuspecting members of the public.
In the petition signed by the family counsel, Mr Johnson Akindehin, the family specifically accused Odedina of deliberately selling the land in question to unsuspecting members of the public.
The petition read, “Our client got a judgment against FECA and three others in suit No AK/279/2012 at the High Court of Justice, Akure over a piece of land situate lying and being at Akure/Owo/Ilesa road, Akure, which is known as Okutanla Ogunmokun family land.”
“Our Client informed us that as soon as Dr Odedina became the Provost sometimes in 2015, he appealed against the judgment of the Court to the Court of Appeal, Akure.”
“The former Provost saw no need to appeal against the judgment as it was clear from the evidence before the court that the land FECA claimed was its own was never its own after all.”
“When Odedina assumed duty as Provost in 2015, he took over the land which the court has awarded to our client. He also engaged the services of a legal practitioner to appeal the judgment. According to our client, the reason for the appeal was to enable Dr Odedina make money for himself as the new Provost.”
The family said a member of House of Representatives, Hon Afe Olowookere representing Akure North/South Federal Constituency has purchased part of the land to build his constituency project.
Apart from the land dispute, the family alleged that the Provost has been engaging unqualified contractors to handle some of the projects in the institution.
However, the Provost denied the allegations and described the petitions as the handiwork of land grabbers who were bent in annexing the land of the institution for selfish purposes.
He said the management of the institution and Alumni association of FECA have reported the activities of the land grabbers to the traditional ruler of the kingdom, the Deji of Akure, Oba Aladelusi Ogublade Aladetoyinbo.
Odedina has accused some top officials in the Office of the Attorney General of the Federation, Federal and state ministries of land and the Police of colliding to pilfer the college land and properties.
The Provost explained that this had reduced the 1,000 hectares of land of the school at inception to 350 hectares at the moment, while a particular individual had taken possession of more than half of the 350 hectares left for the college.
The Alumni Association led by its National President, Prof. Samuel Ogunrinde, led a delegation of the association and management to the palace of the monarch and decried the activities of the land grabbers.
