Ogun govt seeks additional support for development of education

Published by

The Ogun State government has sought the support of people from different walks of life in order to further develop the level of education in the state.

This call was made by the special adviser to the Ogun State governor on education, science, and technology, Abayomi Arigbabu when he spoke at the donation of educational materials by the Zakat and Sadaqat Foundation to over 200 pupils in the Abeokuta area of the state.

He said, “The project is one that will ensure that the issue of illiteracy will be reduced in society and also help us to retain our children in school.

The government is doing a lot in terms of education by providing enough facilities and infrastructure to the students and salaries to teachers.”

He further noted that there is nowhere in the world where only the government can bear that responsibility, adding that people all around the world need to support the government in eradicating illiteracy in the country.

Arigbabu also said that the government will continue to provide an avenue for organisations with similar mindsets to thrive in the state.

“I also call on individuals to support this initiative. People can do it either directly or indirectly. Individuals can support children in their respective communities and finance their education.

Organisations like this can actually help to ensure that Zakat is channelled to the right people who will need it,” he said.

Also speaking at the event, Ogun State coordinator of the foundation, Alhaji Abdulrahman Kewulere Anifowose, disclosed that educational items donated through the back-to-school project include school bags, books, and other writing materials.

“Everyone should remember that education is a collective effort and it takes a community to nurture the minds of our future.
