OFFCUT: N615,000 minimum wage demand, unrealistic – Netizens

Nigerians have expressed that the Nigerian Labour Congress‘s (NLC)  demand for a minimum wage of N615,000 is deemed unrealistic.

Recall that the Nigerian Labour Congress had earlier proposed a monthly minimum wage of N615,000.

In response to the union’s demand, citizens have turned to social media to express doubts about its feasibility, particularly given the current state of the country.

On Facebook, @Michael Umoh shared on Facebook that such a demand seems unrealistic and questions whether the labor union is truly advocating for the people’s interests.

He said ‘‘Labour demanding N615k as a minimum wage is an unrealistic demand. One might begin to question if they are truly on the side of the people.”

Adetutu Alabi Samuel said “ Not realistic, even if agreed on most governors won’t pay.”

Muhammad Tasiu Bichi opined, “Honestly it’s not, they’re just joking. Federal government can’t afford to pay More than 100k to a civil servants.

This is how the system is working in nigeria, the system will not support the interest of common nigerians.”

“It’s highly unrealistic, unreasonably demand”, George Gbolahan Maxwell said.

X (formerly known as Twitter) users also chimed in, highlighting that with Nigerians facing high living costs and inflation, the proposed minimum wage isn’t feasible.
