THE Obafemi Awolowo University Muslim Graduates Association (UNIFEMGA) will on February 8 honour 20 of its members for their achievements and contributions to the development of the association in 2019.
A statement issued by the association’s national public relations officer, Alhaji Mohammed Buari, said the ninth in the series of the event tagged ‘Honours Day’ will be held in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital.
Those to be honoured, according to the statement, include a head of service, four professors, eight Ph.D. holders, two permanent secretaries, two directors, a medical consultant, a chief medical director and a general manager.
The association named the head of service as Alhaja Amidat Ololade Agboola of the Oyo State civil service, just as it listed the professors to include Akeem Amodu of Lead City University, Maruf Adabanija of LAUTECH, Ibrahim Oreagba of the University of Lagos and S. I. Ola of the Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, while the duo of Dr Muftau Ayoola and Dr Bashir Olanrewaju would be honoured as permanent secretaries in the Oyo State civil service.
Other honorees are Mohammed Buari, General Manager, International Routing and Roaming, MTN Global Connect, South Africa; Professor Hakeem Lasisi, Chief Medical Director of the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH) Teaching Hospital, Osogbo; Dr Kusimo Adeneye Rabiu, Director, Lafiya Hospital; Dr Bioku Muftau, a consultant urologist in Abuja and Alhaji Muhammad Kabir Yusuf, Director, Pension Transitional Arrangement Directorate (PTAD).
Others are Doctors Jadesinmi Mohammed, Musibau Azeez, Adenike Olatinwo, B. W. Shiyanbade, M. A. Lateef, O. A. Nofiu, M. O. Isa and A. O. Hassan.
The statement said Professor Ibrahim Oreagba of the Department of Pharmacology, Therapeutics and Toxicology, College of Medicine, University of Lagos, will deliver a lecture entitled ‘Disease State Management: Understanding the Roles of Orthodox and Natural Medicine’, at the event.
Professor Abdullahi Yusuf, Chief Medical Director, University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital, the statement added, would be the chairman of the occasion.
Speaking on the uniqueness of the UNIFEMGA 2020 Honours Day, the association’s national president, Alhaji Waheed Odeyimka, said those to be honoured were carefully selected, having been found to have distinguished themselves in various fields of human endeavour.
Odeyimka said the two-day event would also serve as a mini-reunion of members as there would be a National Executive Committee meeting of the association, which would be hosted by Malam Yusuf Ali (SAN).
Since 2011, when the maiden edition of the National Honours’ Day was held, 120 members have so far been honoured and rewarded for their achievements.
UNIFEMGA is an association of Muslim graduates from the then University of Ife and today’s Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Osun State.
